Centers strengthen cross-disciplinary engagement and innovation among the faculty, build critical mass in infrastructure and research talent at NYUAD, and have helped make the university a magnet for outstanding faculty, scholars, students, and international collaborations.
al Mawrid Arab Center for the Study of Art
al Mawrid Arab Center for the Study of Art is a research center and archive dedicated to the interdisciplinary study of the visual arts of the Arab world, covering the period from 1850-1995. Through a range of activities that include translations, publications, fellowships, research projects, conferences, and a lecture series, as well as the construction of a unique open-access archive, al Mawrid is a major resource for scholars, independent researchers, and for educational and art institutions. Digitized primary documents from the Arab Art Archive are available through the NYU Special Collections online repository and finding aid system.

Center for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics
Faculty from electrical and computer engineering, psychology, and computer science from NYU Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) and NYU New York established the Center for AI and Robotics (CAIR) at NYUAD to conduct fundamental research and develop applications in AI and robotics. Its research areas include the processing and fusion of data from sensors to perceive the surroundings of the robot and intention of moving objects, path planning and navigation in unknown environments, coordination of multi-agent systems formed by groups of robots, brain-machine interfaces, autonomous decision-making, and robotic safety and resiliency.
CAIR’s five research clusters are:

Center for Quantum and Topological Systems
A nucleation point for cross-disciplinary expertise in quantum and topological systems, with an emphasis towards the unifying goal of robust quantum computation — combining all questions from theoretical foundations (topological quantum computing, quantum error-correction) over hardware (topological quantum materials and NV-centers in diamond), architecture (parameterized quantum circuits and quantum communication), and software (foundations of quantum programming languages and hardware-aware software optimization) to various applications (via quantum machine learning and quantum sensing).

Library of Arabic Literature
The Library of Arabic Literature (LAL) makes available Arabic editions and English translations of significant works of Arabic literature, with an emphasis on the seventh to nineteenth centuries. The Library of Arabic Literature thus includes texts from the pre-Islamic era to the cusp of the modern period, and encompasses a wide range of genres, including poetry, poetics, fiction, religion, philosophy, law, science, travel writing, history, and historiography.
